talk clean (eats) to me
food is fuel! ๐ฅ๐๐ณ
today, I wanted to share a little bit about how we can help ourselves create some healthy eating patterns, as well as what some of my favorite eats are as of lately!
our eating patterns simply consist of our food intake and decisions that we make regarding what we consume over time. having healthy ones are important, as the American College of Sports Medicine states that โEvidence shows that persons who consume a healthy, balanced diet over a continuous time period are at reduced risk of developing chronic diseases such as: type II diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and high cholesterolโ (ACSM, 2019). developing a healthy eating pattern may not be a linear process, and it may be a bit of a challenge at times, but it is so worth investing in your health.
here are some tips from the ACSM that have helped me take better control of my diet:
1) Choose vegetables from different subgroups โ dark green, red and orange, legumes (beans and peas), starchy, and other
2) Consume the whole fruit versus fruit juice
3) Half or more of grains should come from whole grains
4) Choose low-fat or fat-free dairy products
5) A variety of proteins should be consumed including lean meats and poultry, eggs, seafood, nuts, seeds, soy products and legumes
6) Healthy fats and oils should be substituted for those containing saturated fat and/or trans fat
7) Research shows that a healthy eating pattern limits saturated fats and trans fats, added sugars, and sodium.
sticking to these tips has been especially helpful for me as I have begun my new semester in college and have helped me achieve weight reduction, have more energy, and overall, be more confident about my health!
